Furthermore, to have a deeper understanding about how is learning English in Vancouver in our institute we interviewed Joao:

1) First could you introduce yourself?

My name is João Gabriel de Almeida. I live in a small town called Mogi Guaçú in the state of Sao Paulo in Brazil. I came to improve my English so I could work in the international pharmacy industry some day.

Talking about me I like solving Rubik’s cubes, watching movies, funny videos, and cycling. I have been studying English since I was about 10 years old. To became fluent, I decided to study English in Canada because of its great reception towards students from other countries.

With this in mind, I really appreciate the politeness of the Canadian people, the amazing landscapes in Vancouver, and the extraordinary experiences and opportunities the country offers.

2) How was your experience learning English in Vancouver?

I like Vancouver! It is a melting pot where you find open-minded people from everywhere. There are many things to do, from visiting restaurants and museums to exploring the beautiful surroundings.

Even though the city was rainier than I thought it didn’t make the experience go badly. Surprisingly Vancouver’s size, if you consider the cities around it, is huge, there was something new to do every day.

3) How was your time learning English in our school?

iTTTTi Vancouver is a terrific English school. I believe I improved my English greatly considering that I was there for a short-time program. Thanks to my dear teachers!

It was really fun, since the activities made my time there delightful. I made friends, played ping pong, had nice lunch conversations, shared laughs with the teachers, and hung out with classmates inside and outside of the school.

The teachers pay a lot attention to the students since the class is the perfect size to us practice our English with international students and have your own time with the teachers.

4) We do many activities. What do you think about it? Which was your favorite activity?

I think it is a great way for the new students to meet current students and make friends to go sightseeing around the city.

As in class we focus on learning English, the activities create opportunities to get to know more of each other in depth and find out more about their cultures.

My favorite activity was going ice skating at Robson square, and my favorite tour was the Rocky Mountains. It was stunning going around national parks, lakes and small cities.

I felt like I was in a movie.

6) Since you are a teenager, do you have any advice for future teenagers students enrolling in iTTTi?

I would say for teenagers don’t be afraid of choosing iTTTi, because there are many young people and school plans activities for all the ages.

I would advice them to not be afraid of making mistakes in English. And for them to join every activity they can do. Also to enjoy the activities with a smile.

Remember that everyone is in the school to improve their skills, which means we don’t need to feel unfordable in case you don’t know the word. Or if you are not the best in grammar.

7) How was to have classes with Canadian teachers?

It was a fantastic experience. The teachers are motivational, funny, helpful, and their teaching methodology is dynamic.

The teachers are highly experienced which makes it easy for them to identify a topic in case we have a doubt, but we are shy to ask. Also, some teachers are bilingual, so they understand our struggles.

8) Overall, in your experience, what was the best thing about your time in Canada?

To be honest, having my own free time to wander around Vancouver to sightsee, feeling rather safer than in my home country. Brazil is beautiful, but the violence doesn’t allow us to feel safe.

Even though the Great Vancouver area has over three million people, I felt safe to explore the city on my own.

9) What was the most challenging thing about your trip to Canada or studies?

Getting used to the different accents from the students.

As we know an excellent English school in Vancouver offers a great mix of nationalities and for this reason, I was exposed to accents from Europe, Asia and South America.

10) Lastly would you like to leave a message to your teacher or classmates?

Thank you all for this experience!

It was an honor having class with each classmate. Thank you for the times we went out together, played ping pong, laughed and had fun. I hope I get to see you all soon. I wish you all the best.
